First Nations

Koorie Education at Lalor North Primary School

At Lalor North Primary School, we respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn, play and grow...the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and recognise the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country, Culture, and Community.

Valuing Culture. Listening to Voices. Walking Together.

We are committed to creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment where all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people feel respected, valued, and empowered to be proud of their identity. We celebrate the strength, resilience and knowledge that First Nations cultures bring to our school community.

At Lalor North Primary School, we:

  • Establish a culturally safe environment by embedding First Nations perspectives across our curriculum, school environment and school practices.

  • Acknowledge and celebrate significant cultural events, including NAIDOC Week, National Reconciliation Week, and Indigenous Literacy Day.

  • Engage with Aboriginal voices and stories to foster understanding, empathy and connection for all students.

  • Build strong partnerships with local Aboriginal community members, Koorie Education Support Officers and local organisations.

  • Provide opportunities for all students to learn about Australia’s First Peoples in ways that are respectful, meaningful and authentic.

  • Uphold and promote our school values of Resilience, Respect, Honesty, Success and Unity - through the lens of reconciliation and shared learning.

Our commitment goes beyond acknowledgement. We are continually strengthening our practices to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students feel seen, heard, and celebrated. We believe that when we honour the cultures and contributions of First Nations peoples, we create a richer, more just and inclusive learning environment for all.
