Inclusion & Diversity

Education for All. Belonging for Everyone.

At Lalor North Primary School, we believe that education is a human right and that right belongs to every child. Inclusive education is not just a goal; it’s a guiding principle that shapes the way we teach, learn, and grow together.  We encourage you to read the Inclusion and Diversity Policy for more information.

What is Inclusive Education?

Inclusive education means that every student, regardless of ability, background, or identity, is welcomed and supported to thrive in their learning. It’s about ensuring that no one is left behind and that all student recieve the right support to help them flourish.

Why Inclusion Matters

Research consistently shows that inclusive education benefits everyone—not just students with disabilities. When schools embrace inclusion:

  • Learning outcomes improve for all students

  • Empathy, respect, and understanding grow within the community

  • Diversity is celebrated, and difference is seen as a strength

Inclusive classrooms teach children how to live and learn with people of all abilities, helping to shape a more compassionate, inclusive society.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Lalor North Primary School proudly supports the rights of all children to learn in a way that respects and values their individual identity, cultural background, and learning needs.

We align with the Victorian Curriculum, which offers flexibility to accommodate diverse learners, and we adopt inclusive practices that help all students feel recognised, supported, and empowered.

Inclusive education at our school means:

  • Minimising barriers to participation and success

  • Valuing each student’s uniqueness and contribution

  • Helping everyone learn and grow together

  • Providing targeted support where needed, without isolating or singling out students

Small Steps, Big Impact

Creating inclusive learning spaces isn’t the work of one person, it takes a whole school community. From teachers and education support staff to families and peers, everyone plays a role in fostering inclusive attitudes and behaviours.

We support our staff with ongoing professional learning in inclusive education, disability awareness, trauma-informed practices, and differentiated teaching. We also encourage our students to ask questions, challenge stereotypes, and show kindness because understanding difference is the first step to creating true inclusion.

Inclusion Means Belonging

As one educator said:

“Including students with disabilities in schools is important because that’s where so much of a child’s learning happens. That’s where they pick up attitudes... and where they learn about the world.”

At Lalor North Primary School we understand that for students with disabilities, accessing education can often be challenging due to physical, social, or systemic barriers. Inclusive education works to remove these barriers, creating safe and supportive environments where every child can fully participate and feel a genuine sense of belonging.  At Lalor North Primary School, we ensure every child is seen, heard, valued and supported, because inclusion isn’t just about access... it’s about belonging.
